Doing a short survey, and I've gone to a couple of people and asked them this question :
"What is the point of the Christian life?"
The answers I've got -- some of them expected -- some of them unexpected -- didn't really answer the question!
I was told that "The point is that we would grow and learn..." or "the point is that we would become all we were meant to be..."
You see, my problem with this, is that most of the answers were pretty pointLESS. Ie, they would only have a POINT if they were in a bigger framework. Otherwise, they all seemed self-serving and without any REAL point.
Like, why would the point of the christian life be to grow and learn? Does this strike only me as a pretty self-serving existance? What about becoming all we were meant to be?? I mean, what exactly does that mean? When you BECOME something it's so that you can serve some sort of POINT. This answer still avoids the real question.
What even of sin avoidance. Is that the point of the Christian life? To become more and more unsinning? (I don't use the word 'holy' there because holy, I think, means something very different to our current interpretation of the word...')
I'm not going to give my answer away just yet. I'd first like to see if there are any comments... so what do you say? What is the point of the Christian life?

poit
i used to think it was something like living for others, but then what are they here for?
Glorify God...i bet that
Glorify God...i bet that annoys you so much since you'll ask, "What does that mean and what does that look like?" WHich is a fair comment i guess, man's chief end is to live a life in Christ serving him and his Kingdom summed up in the law, "Love God and love others". The Christian life is not about myself but rather denying myself following Jesus and laying down every aspect of my living under his supreme authority. That has implications for the job or degree i choose, where i live and the church i am involved in, the wife or husband i choose and the list goes on. Living under the supremacy of Christ to God's glory every day is living a life worthy of the Gospel...But thats a short answer to a big question.
Point!
I used to think the point was to be a good wife and mother --- now I am 40 and still not married or a mother --- and I'm thinking my thinking was wrong...
