To Halloween or not to Halloween

envoy's picture

There's a synchroblog happening on halloween with a number of people participating. The title is "A Christian Response to Halloween". Seems like most people are looking toward redeeming the event for themselves or making use of the event to connect with others.

Two of us (at least but I'm not sure who esle) are part of emergent, so why not start with our blogs and let us see what you think:

i like it

Hi Nic,

I've been inspired by NT Wright arguing that we ought to recapture the sacraments (session 3). I'm feeling very stirred and challenged for Friday.

WWJD?

The Pumpkin is getting full of little gnats. I am vexed because I don't know if they are from satan, god, or nature. What would Jesus do?

Confused of Constantia.

preserve our squash, oh Lord

I've been graced with an answer!

It's on My Science Project, and called "How Do You Keep a Jack O' Lantern From Rotting?"

These are its findings:

  • White glue – Preserved pumpkin for 6 days. Profuse mold and rot.
  • Acrylic spray – Preserved pumpkin for 9 days. Profuse mold and rot.
  • Vaseline – Preserved pumpkin for 9 days. Profuse mold and rot.
  • Bleach – Preserved pumpkin for 10 days. Minimal mold, some rot.
  • Control – Preserved pumpkin for 14 days. Minimal rot, some mold.
  • Pumpkin Fresh – Preserved pumpkin for 14 days. Minimal mold, some rot.

So as maybe expected, the natural way (in the Control squash) wins again.

Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it ...

Review

Alas, for all you avid readers, the squash didn't make it. But it made a good rotton smell to help us in our reflections.

See my review.
