Nelus,

It was good to see you again, and I'll be blogging about the meeting, or my reaction to it, which I'm still not sure about.

Freedom of speech.

Are you in favour of the freedom of speech?

Do you believe that the hate speech of Christian fundamentalists should be unlawful?

hate speech

Hi Amanda
Thanks for your question. I am not sure who you are addressing - was it a particular person or thread, or the emerging conversation generally?

Anyhow, I'm sure you will gather that we are in favour of freedom of speech.

As for hate speech being unlawful, well, I don' t think its very constructive, and obviously not God-glorifying, but don't know if the law is the best way to deal with hate, being an issue of the heart.

And as for hate speech against Christian Fundamentalists, why do you ask - are you experiencing this?

Freedom of speech.

Thank you for answering. It is just a general question. I should have said 'hate speech by fundamentalists'. It seems that when fundamentalists talk about sin by name, that it gets labeled hate speech and they are reprimanded for being unloving and saying hurtful things. I was wondering if emergents would welcome laws that would limit freedom of speech.

fundamentalists welcome

Hi Amanda
Please feel free to join this site; not only will you be able to see your comments right away but its a good place to air your views and see if they stand up. On the whole people are not going to get combative without good cause. We'd like to hear what you as self confessed "fundamentalist" has to say, and how you view the emerging conversation.

Freedom of speech

Everyone has a right to freedom of speech - the problem is that the hateful views expressed often become into hateful actions. I don't think the expression of views should be unlawful but when Christians start advocating violence, persecution or other negative actions - I think that should be stopped.
My view has always been that the recruitment of other individuals (particularly the vulnerable - mentally ill individuals or teenagers) by fundamentalist churches should be restricted.
