My wife recently got the DVD of the film Ostrov (The Island), which I've blogged about at Notes from underground: Reviving the Russian Soul and Ostrov (The Island - film.
If anyone in the Tshwane area would like to come over to see it and discuss it, please let me know (at hayesstw@gmail.com) and we can arrange a time.

Eastern Orthodox Cultures
Steve
I am intruiged at your commitment to Orthodoxy, as well as to the (Greco-Slavic) cultures in which it is native; Greek, Serbian and Russian etc. It seems rather widely transcultural.
Monasticism old and new
It's a pity you're so far away, Nic.
But there doesn't seem to be anyone around here who's interested in discussing monasticism old and new, Christian communes and the like.
interested, not a good time
Steve-
as part of the leadership of a (the?) neo-monastic community, who is helping others start similar communities, I am very interested in both monasticism new and old. BUT, just finishing a year's program and getting ready for a big trip, so now's not the time for me. ALSO, and maybe more importantly, I'm not particularly interested in online "conversations" right now (I barely have time to read most posts). Would much prefer seeing you in person after we are back in January :)

Whenever
Arthur,
Yes, I realise it's not a good time for you, but since we have the movie on DVD, it's not going to run away (unless we have burglars, of course!) if you'd like to see it, get in touch when you get back, and we can make a date for you to come over and see it, and chat about it, and we can invite a few other people then as well.
Once you've seen it, you might decide you'd like us to bring it over to Nieu Communities and show it to the next lot of apprentices, but I think you'd better see it first.
Closer...
Steve, if I were closer and not getting married in 2 weeks, I'd be in too!
