A friend of mine asked me if I remembered his uncle Johnie, "yip why?" was
my reply, the following story unfolded (I have changed names to keep it in
the family):
Well 2 months ago a young lady called his house looking for him, he was'nt
in so the lady said she would call again. She did and after confirming his
identity, gave him the following news "My name is Jane, I'm 34 years old and
I'm your daughter. (the youngest child with his wife is 42 years old).....
It appears that Johnie had jumped the fence in his 30's and had never known
that there had been such consequences...
The lady whom he had been unfaithful with had decided to put the result of
their affair up for adoption to a childless couple. Jane had only recently
On my travels attending a men's meeting
I started chatting to a church leader when he confided in me that some people are just not qualified to the things they believe God is callling them to. When asked to elaborate he shared the following with me:
A lady in the church had approached him with the request that she could start up and lead a house church group. He told her "you just not qualified, you're divorced, the man you are living with is also divorced - you have not even bothered to get married"
I was struck dumb.......
I wonder what he would say to a new convert who happens to be married to a man with 4 wives as her tradition permits. Would he insist she's not qualified either?
Or perhaps the guy with the foul temper? Not qualified?
How do we love our neighbor as ourselves? How do we demonstrate God's love for those around us?
More and more I cross paths with folk whose only experience with the church is pain, we have these "wonderful" sayings like - love the sinner not the sin. Yet what we seem to accomplish is to cause people pain (from within the church and out) - by the things we say and do as a church.
It's seems that it's always easier to condemn the sin and thereby the sinner than to pass on Gods unconditional love as Jesus did.
We go out on missions, outreaches and the likes, reminding people more of the things they do that drive them further from God, than demonstrating His love for them.
In my travels I pass many a person alongside the road waiting patiently for transport to take them on their way. I just drive on by, most of the time not even noticing , tied up in my own thoughts and little world, listening to music etc.
