Hi all
My husband and I went to a small town in the Karoo a while ago - Carnarvon. It's an amazing little place, 1 hour away from the nearest big town (and that "big town" is Calvinia). They live in complete isolation...and racial tensions are high. They desperately need outside help. One man moved back to Carnarvon after living in Cape Town for 15 years, with the goal in mind to save it. We have hooked up with him.
I recently sent them a food parcel that should feed about 200 people and am organizing to send food and clothing there again in December. We are quite desperate for donations of food, clothing and cash to cover delivery costs as we cannot afford to get it there by ourselves.
If anyone can help out with a small payment or other donation, please contact me. (money is the biggest worry at the moment - we need about R1800 to get all the food and clothing there)
I usually believe that charity begins at home and I have a number of local projects that I do support - BUT because they live in isolation, there really is no help for them. No Lions Club, no NG Vrouediens, no Christmas drive...Any help will be appreciated guys!
We have gotten to know the community really well and it is quite magical...An amazing couple has opened up their home for us to stay in, and several of the locals have offered to show us the desert, rock drawings and trails. They are so excited that there are people from outside that care about them...
Drop me a line on estelle@bmedia.co.za if you can help.
