Welcome!

Thanks for the meetup tonight, everyone - I really enjoyed it as well as meeting all of you! Thanks also to Pierre for hosting us at Third Place.

For those who weren't there - here's what happened. We each introduced ourselves and told our own stories briefly (had to be - there were 18 of us!) and said what we'd expect out of a group like this. Some of the things were:

  • great sounding board
  • connect with new people
  • searching for a space for questions; meeting people in the flesh
  • searching for a community
  • creating, rather than just talking
  • finding others
  • space for questions
  • want to know more about the emerging church conversation
  • curious about new forms of Christian community
  • networking with people
  • "What's next?"
  • allowing culture to shape our expression of Christianity; taking the Gospel *to* the world rather than expecting them to come to us
  • some action
  • "Someone gave me words for what I was thinking."
  • in the past it's been a lot of talk with no action

Meetup at Third Place on October 22nd at 7 - 9pm

The first gathering of Pretoria emerging voices. This is a night of conversations, growing friendships, connecting people and creating a vibe together with others busy with "postal" questions (ask around, you might get an answers as to what this mean).

Bring a chair, and friends who you think might be interested.

We'll meet at Third Place in Moreleta Park - directions are here. You can also reply at the Facebook event.

Must reads

There are many books that I recommend and find highly valuable for discussion among people asking the questions we are all asking. However, there are 2 that I would propose we read together at the moment...

First, the Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard. Several of you have already mentioned wanting to read it and we're just trying to organise a time. This book is so good and practical about the Kingdom. However, it is weighty and one can get lost in reading it (Cori, don't be too scared ;). That's why I think it must be read and discussed with others. Discussion also keeps it from being an intellectual exercise. In conversation we find how to apply in our context.
